After Anjelica’s crazy scheme to bring Hattie Adams and Bonnie Lockhart to Salem to impersonate Dr. Marlena Evans and Adrienne Johnson Kiriakis, the lives of John Black, Justin Kiriakis, and Lucas Horton are in turmoil. While the real Marlena is tucked away in a psychiatric facility and the real Adrienne is stuck in Statesville, Bonnie, as Adrienne, has broken Lucas’ heart, not to mention, Justin’s. John is shaken by Marlena’s breakup and her sudden interest in her ex, Roman Brady. Anne swoops in to heal Lucas’ heart. “You two know what to do.” Anjelica said to Hattie and Bonnie after Hattie sprung Bonnie from Statesville and placed a drugged Adrienne in Bonnie’s cell.
“We won’t let you down.” Hattie and Bonnie told Anjelica said with crossed fingers behind their backs as Anjelica left the ladies to do their part in her scheme.
Meanwhile, at Shady Acres, Marlena woke from her drug-induced coma to find herself trapped in a strait jacket inside a padded cell.
“Oh, no!” Marlena said to herself. “It can’t be? Not again?”
As Marlena struggled to free herself from the strait jacket, the orderly brought in her meal.
“Well, good evening, Ms. Adams.” The orderly said to Marlena, placing Hattie’s dinner tray next to Marlena. “I hope you’re hungry.”
“You have to listen to me.” Marlena pleaded. “I’m not Hattie.”
But Marlena’s pleas fell on the orderly’s deaf ears as he locked the cell, leaving Marlena alone to eat her dinner.
Back in Salem, Bonnie, impersonating Adrienne, was waiting for Lucas at the Brady Pub after she text Lucas to meet her.
“Hey, babe.” Lucas said to “Adrienne”, who pulled away from his kiss.
“Please, Lucas, don’t do that.” Bonnie said.
“What’s wrong?” Lucas said, concerned.
“I’m sorry, Lucas, but it’s over.” Bonnie told a crushed Lucas.
“What? I don’t understand?”
“I just don’t love you anymore.” Bonnie told him.
“But we made love this morning?” Lucas said, obviously confused by Adrienne’s sudden change of heart.
“I’m still in love with Justin.” Bonnie told him, as she walked out of the Brady Pub, leaving Lucas bewildered.
But Brady came in to get some of Caroline’s chowder and noticed Lucas sitting alone.
“Lucas, I thought you were meeting Adrienne?” Brady asked him.
“Yeah, the funniest thing.” Lucas lashed out at him. “Adrienne called off our relationship!”
“What? I don’t understand?”
“Yeah, you and me both?”
“Well, I have my own troubles to deal with.” Brady said.
“Brady, here is your chowder.” Joey said, bringing his order to him.
“Thank you, Joey.” Brady thanked him as he gave Joey the money to pay for the chowder.
“Well, Lucas, if I can do anything, let me know.” Brady told him as he headed back to the Kiriakis mansion.
Lucas left the Brady Pub as soon as Brady left and headed straight for Dario’s Club. It was a good night to fall off the wagon.
John was waiting for Marlena at the courtyard in Horton Square where Marlena text him saying they needed to talk. She looked exquisite as always when Hattie arrived at Horton Square and headed for John to do her part in breaking up with John.
“Doc!” John said, as he tried to kiss her on the lips, but she shushed him away.
“John, we need to talk.” Hattie told him.
“Yeah. What about?” John questioned her.
“I want a divorce!” Hattie came out and told him.
“Doc, we’re not married.” John reminded her.
“Oh, right.” Hattie corrected herself after John reminded her.
“Doc, I don’t understand?”
“I’ve just lost interest in this relationship.” Hattie told him. “I’ve moved onto better things.”
“You’ve moved on to better things?” John said, confused. “What ‘better things’ have you moved on with?”
“Since you’ve been gone, I’ve found purpose in being an independent woman.” Hattie said. “I no longer need you in my life to validate me.”
“I’m sorry, ‘validate you?’” John said, obviously confused by Marlena’s behavior.
“Your absence from Salem has gave me new purpose. It’s over and that’s that.” Hattie said. “Now, if you don’t mind, I must go.”
Hattie left John alone in Horton Square bewildered after their discussion. Paul happened along and saw his father and sat down next to him.
“Dad, you looked, well, confused.” Paul asked him.
“Yeah, son. I am.”
“Marlena just ended things between us.”
“What? But you two were on the mend and working things out?”
“Yeah, I thought so? But now, I’m not so sure?”
“What happened, if I may ask?”
“I don’t know, but if Marlena wants it over, then so be it.” John told Paul, and walked away.
Paul was confused. First Adrienne breaks up with Lucas. And now Marlena has left John. Something was up in Salem. And Paul intended to get to the bottom of it.
Lucas celebrated his “freedom” from “Adrienne” by going to The Club and getting rip-roaring drunk. Chloe desperately tried to stop Lucas from drinking but she was having no luck. Lucas didn’t seem to care. But Anne showed up and seemed to be the one to get Lucas off the sauce.
“Lucas!” Anne said, as she snatched the drink from Lucas’ hand and planting a kiss on his lips.
“Well, Anne, I didn’t know you cared?!” Lucas lashed out at her.
“You know I want you and have always wanted you!” Anne said as she kissed hi again.
Lucas was too wasted to care anymore and let Anne take him home with her where Anne gave Lucas a night to remember.
Meanwhile, Hattie/Marlena was busy trying to get Roman to notice her. She became jealous when she came into The Brady Pub and saw Kate hobnobbing with Roman.
“Cheating on your husband?!” Hattie/Marlena said to Kate.
“Roman and I are old friends!” Kate snubbed Hattie/Marlena.
“Doc, why do you care?” Roman asked Hattie/Marlena. “Is it any of your business?”
“Well, Kate should not be associating with a man when she is married to Andre DiMera!” Hattie/Marlena pointed out.
“Well, what goes on in my marriage to Andre is none of your business, Marlena?!” Kate retorted.
Kate’s phone was ringing and she rushed out of The Brady Pub, leaving Roman alone with Hattie/Marlena—as she smiled slyly knowing her plot seemed to be working.
“Now that we’re finally alone….” Hattie/Marlena said, sitting down across from Roman.
“What did you want, Doc?”
“Just to talk.”
“Whatever you want.”
“Well, the weather is nice for an Autumn day.” Roman said. “Now I have to go.”
Roman left Hattie/Marlena alone at The Brady Pub feeling rejected.
“Damn!” Hattie/Marlena said. “I just need to get Roman to notice me.”
But Anjelica happened by and wanted a report on what was going on with their plan.
“Hattie, what are you doing?” Anjelica berated her.
“I was trying to get Roman to notice me.”
“But I got you out of Statesville to fulfill my plan—of getting Justin away from Adrienne.”
“I did that.”
“How? It looks like you got Justin and Adrienne back together?”
“But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”
“I don’t understand?” Anjelica said.
“It’s just a roose so Adrienne/Bonnie can get inside the Kiriakis mansion.”
“Yes, she wants revenge on Maggie…bla bla bla…”
“Have patience, Anjelica, it will all work out.”
“It better! I better have Justin in my life! Or you and and Bonnie will be sorry!” Anjelica threatened before leaving Hattie alone, standing outside The Brady Pub.
Hattie took out her cell and text Bonnie/Adrienne: “We need to step out plan…now!!”
